We all need someone to turn to in life. Whether to ask for advice, share a joke or simply be listened to, it’s important that we all have someone to call upon when we need to. However, this is not reality for one in three elderly people in Northern Ireland who have expressed feeling lonely.
Olympic Lifts, a leading supplier of stairlifts in Northern Ireland, hopes to join the fight against this issue with a new directory of social groups for the elderly across Northern Ireland, complete with map and filtering option.
Dozens of social groups across Northern Ireland are keen to enlist new members in their lunch clubs and bowls teams, where elderly people may meet together for company and conversation. Many meet once a week, giving people the chance to build relationships and skills regularly. Some even host special events, such as trips out to the theatre and Christmas dinners.
The map tool is easy to use, and allows you to click around your surrounding area to find your closest social group. Not only that, but you can filter the social groups based on what kind of club you would like to join. Whether it’s a women’s or men’s group, one where you can learn to dance or try some arts and crafts, Olympic Lifts’ map can be tailored to suit your interests.
